Inspired by the fugue, Foreman set out to develop a descending chromatic line into a contrapuntal idea. Be sure to follow the development of the theme moving through 3 different tempo shifts, where the phrases develop and fold, first as single lines, then in a melodic and chordal origami. In the middle is an episode that modulates through rhythm rather than pitch. The bass stretches up an octave and a simple delay becomes rhythmical partner to the polyrhythmic timbale groove. The powerful conclusion in the recapitulation section is bolstered by a complex, grindy and wide bass texture which will likely sound different on each playback system you try. Fire, twist and turns abound.
